Abstract

Purpose: The study discusses various concepts for human resources (HR) executives for effective decision making in VUCA times, talent management, hybrid work business model, creativity and innovation in HR practices, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in HR practices, and flexibility in HR policies.

Need for the Study: The driving truth of this study is to approach a successful dynamic critical model for HR leaders in the IT Industry in Chennai city during VUCA times. Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity are the four main components of VUCA.

Methodology: The essential information was gathered with Google Structures, and testing methods were embraced to review the Snowball Examining Procedure. The 211 reactions were settled for the concentrate after deficient reactions. The auxiliary information was gathered from sources like Papers, Business Magazines, Industry Reports, Articles, and Reading material. The information was dissected with measurable programming SPSS 25 and AMOS 23. The validity check, t-test, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM) are the statistical methods used in the study.

Findings: The review results that the free factor is the ability of The board, Crossbreed Work Plan of action, Imagination and development in HR rehearses, Variety, Value and Consideration in HR practices, and adaptability in HR strategies altogether affect the reliant variable viable decision making during VUCA times.

Practical Implications: The study identifies hybrid work models and flexible HR policies as crucial parameters in VUCA times.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to present a theoretical investigation of the effects of cavitation and couple stress on the squeeze film behavior between an anisotropic poroelastic rigid disc and a sinusoidally oscillating rigid disc.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the microcontinuum theory of Vijay Kumar Stokes and the Elrod–Adam algorithm, the non-Newtonian Reynolds equation coupled with modified Darcy's law for lubricant flow through the porous disc is derived. This numerical study includes the continuity of tangential velocity at the porous–fluid interface and the effects of percolation of the polar additives into the anisotropic porous disc.

Findings

The effects of couple stress, oscillating amplitude, percolation additives, permeability and anisotropic permeability on the squeeze film characteristics are discussed. It is found that both the percolation effect of the lubricant additives and the anisotropic structure of the porous surface reduce the flow in the porous disc, resulting in a decrease in pressure. It is also observed that cavitation effects are more pronounced for Newtonian fluids than couple stress fluids.

Originality/value

The results of this study can be used to design a variety of engineering applications such as bearings, wet clutches and non-contact mechanical seals.

Abstract

Purpose

This study examines the impact of customer involvement (CI), technology strategy, firm internationalization and servitization on product and service innovation performance (SIP) in hybrid offerings. In addition, it investigates the moderating role of digitization and co-creation in the relationship mentioned above.

Design/methodology/approach

A research framework was developed through the lens of service-dominant (S-D) logic theory, and the proposed research hypotheses were empirically tested. Primary data were collected via the survey method, and structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data.

Findings

Findings of this study suggest that the S-D logic theory effectively explains CI and servitization in hybrid offerings. Furthermore, digitization is a crucial driver of SIP. Additionally, this paper finds that co-creation moderates between servitization and innovation performance of hybrid offerings.

Practical implications

Besides theoretical contributions, this study presents valuable insights to manage service networks during servitization.

Originality/value

First, this work proposes a comprehensive framework of hybrid offerings' driving factors (i.e. CI, firm internationalization, technology strategy and servitization) and their impact on product and SIP. Second, it tests the moderating effects of digitalization and co-creation in the context of hybrid offerings.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the paper is to contribute to the understanding of regional entrepreneurial development by constructing an institutional environment index in India, where high heterogeneity is found in the economic development and entrepreneurial activities across its states. It tries to fill the gap of research which hampers the effectiveness of policy efforts to promote job growth through entrepreneurship development in India and contributes in understanding the phenomenon why the relative contribution of entrepreneurship varies across states.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper uses a composite index of institutional quality based on the Penalty for Bottleneck (PFB) methodology to capture the institutional environment differences across the states of India. The relationship between the institutional environment and the measures of entrepreneurship is established through various statistical and econometric techniques such as correlation and regression.

Findings

The paper finds the regional and contextual institutional environment differences in India starker and more varied than is generally viewed. The empirical evidence suggests that the differences in institutional quality scores can play a significant role in explaining the variations in the extent of entrepreneurial activities across the Indian states. The findings of this paper demonstrate a differential influence of the local institutional environment on the entrepreneurial activities at a regional level in a developing economy like India.

Research limitations/implications

This study is limited by the data sources and index design; therefore, it cannot completely specify all institutional factors and their combined influences on entrepreneurial activities at the regional level. However, it makes a significant contribution to expanding the current body literature of institutional environment reform and entrepreneurship development in developing countries.

Practical implications

The policy implication of the paper highlights the need of policymakers to think outside the individual policy silos and consider the institutional environment as a whole. Priority attention of the policymakers should be on the institutional reform for any type of entrepreneurship development. A corollary implication of the O-ring theory of development and the PFB methodology is that the policy effort is allocated most effectively when it seeks to alleviate bottlenecks.

Social implications

The main implication of this paper for the policymaking is that it is necessary to focus more on the weak institutional factors (bottlenecks) and on the general environment improvement for any entrepreneurship development.

Originality/value

The study contributes to study the problem of entrepreneurship discrepancy in India through the lens of institutions and institutional environment. This study is an improvement over the previous studies by testing the statistical significance of the institutional environment on the entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Purpose: This paper examines beef consumption practices in two villages of Tamil Nadu, India. It inquires into how the upper castes create spatial boundaries to separate the inside from the outside in their consumption of beef.

Methodology: The research was carried out in two villages of Kariacheri and Pudupattinam located in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, India. We conducted 70 in-depth interviews, and observed beef buying and consumption practices.

Findings: The research shows how the upper castes separate the inside from the outside and surreptitiously consume beef. Dalits or untouchables are unable to create such separations, and as a result are stigmatized and ostracized. Moreover, the distinction between the inside and the outside is not fixed but is in a state of transition.

Originality and value: This study offers insights into how stigma is defined by spatial boundaries. These insights help to understand purity, pollution, and stigma in consumption practices as ongoing processes that are often created to justify social divisions and discriminatory practices.

Abstract

Purpose

In-situ aluminum metal matrix composites (AMMC) have taken over the use of ex-situ AMMC due to the generation of finer and thermodynamically stable intermetallic compounds. However, conventional processing routes pose inevitable defects like porosity and agglomeration of particles. This paper aims to study current state of progress in in-situ AMMC fabricated by Friction Stir Processing.

Design/methodology/approach

Friction stir processing (FSP) has successfully evolved to be a favorable in-situ composite manufacturing technique. The dynamics of the process account for a higher plastic strain of 35 and a strain rate of 75 per second. These processing conditions are responsible for grain evolution from rolled grain → dislocation walls and dislocation tangles → subgrains → dislocation multiplication → new grains. Working of matrix and reinforcement under ultra-high strain rate and shorter exposure time to high temperatures produce ultra-fine grains. Do the grain evolution modes include subgrain boundaries → subgrain boundaries and high angle grain boundaries → high angle grain boundaries.

Findings

Further, the increased strain and strain rate can shave and disrupt the oxide layer on the surface of particles and enhance wettability between the constituents. The frictional heat generated by tool and workpiece interaction is sufficient enough to raise the temperature to facilitate the exothermic reaction between the constituents. The heat released during the exothermic reaction can even raise the temperature and accelerate the reaction kinetics. In addition, heat release may cause local melting of the matrix material which helps to form strong interfacial bonds.

Originality/value

This article critically reviews the state of the art in the fabrication of in-situ AMMC through FSP. Further, FSP as a primary process and post-processing technique in the synthesis of in-situ AMMC are also dealt with.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to review the various pre-processing and post-processing approaches used to ameliorate the surface characteristics of fused deposition modelling (FDM)-based acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) prototypes. FDM being simple and versatile additive manufacturing technique has a calibre to comply with present need of tailor-made and cost-effective products with low cycle time. But the poor surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary hurdles ahead the implementation of FDM for rapid casting and tooling applications.

Design/methodology/approach

The consequences and scope of FDM pre-processing and post-processing parameters have been studied independently. The comprehensive study includes dominance, limitations, validity and reach of various techniques embraced to improve surface characteristics of ABS parts. The replicas of hip implant are fabricated by maintaining the optimum pre-processing parameters as reviewed, and a case study has been executed to evaluate the capability of vapour smoothing process to enhance surface finish.

Findings

The pre-processing techniques are quite deficient when different geometries are required to be manufactured within limited time and required range of surface finish and accuracy. The post-processing techniques of surface finishing, being effective disturbs the dimensional stability and mechanical strength of parts thus incapacitates them for specific applications. The major challenge for FDM is the development of precise, automatic and controlled mass finishing techniques with low cost and time.

Research limitations/implications

The research assessed the feasibility of vapour smoothing technique for surface finishing which can make consistent castings of customized implants at low cost and shorter lead times.

Originality/value

The extensive research regarding surface finish and dimensional accuracy of FDM parts has been collected, and inferences made by study have been used to fabricate replicas to further examine advanced finishing technique of vapour smoothing.
